If you live anywhere near Winter Haven and you love books, The Book Shelter needs to be on your list.
It’s locally owned, impressively organized (signs everywhere — you’ll find your section in seconds), and it has the best trade-in program I’ve come across: bring in your old books and get 50% of their resale price as store credit. We rotate out books we’ve finished, walk out with new-to-us ones, and support a local business doing it. Our last visit, the credit covered everything — we paid nothing.
My favorite feature: once you have an account, you can put a wishlist on file. If the author or title you’re hunting comes in, they call you. That’s happened for us twice now, and it never stops feeling like magic.
There’s a children’s area with a reading nook, so bring the kids — ours treats it like a treasure hunt.
